WonderBaby.org, a website created by Amber Bobnar, is dedicated to helping parents of young children with visual impairments as well as children with multiple disabilities. The website offers a database of articles written by parents who want to share with others what they’ve learned about playing with and teaching a blind child, as well as links to meaningful resources and ways to connect with other families.

Amber began WonderBaby in 2006 when her son, Ivan, was a year old. He had just been diagnosed with Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), a rare retinal disorder. Her family had been desperately searching for support and answers and thought it might be a good idea to gather these as she found them into one place.

Originally  intended  just to link to resources found on the web, Amber began writing more and more about Ivan and all he had to teach!  Other parents contacted her to let her know they were experiencing this too…that these children are full of wonder and amaze us every day. As parents focus on teaching teaching their children all they need to learn in order to be as independent as possible, they are often surprised to find out that they are learning so much from their children!

In her sixth year of partnering with Perkins School for the Blind, Amber continues to share information with other families and invites these families to share, too!  She also is collaborating with National Braille Press’s Great Expectations children’s book project and publishing articles in the National Federation of the Blind’s Future Reflections.

If you have not checked out WonderBaby.org, quit wondering and see all there is to offer on this amazing website.
