There is a tremendous need world-wide for teachers who have been trained to work with students who are deafblind. We know in the United States that many of the deafblind grant projects are trying to address this need and that there are more opportunities for training than have been available for years. In a recent article from the Voice of America, part of the government agency that oversees all non-military, U.S. international broadcasting, we learned about a new and exciting initiative. At the United Nations on the sidelines of meetings for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Perkins School for the Blind announced that it is launching an initiative to train 1 million teachers worldwide by 2030 to educate children with multiple disabilities.

Hats off to Perkins for their leadership to insure that all children with deafblindness receive the education they deserve.
